Developing appointment setting skills

One of the biggest challenges of my new job is getting the required skills to function effectively over the telephone. Although I close the sale from a face to face presentation I am required to set the appointment over the telephone. I am fine when I get in front of someone but I will have to work on my skills when it comes to setting up an appointment. The first point of contact is often from cold calling so this is a new area that I am going to have to become familiar with.
