Baby Hammock Marsh

Almost daily we are confronted and, no doubt, confounded by man’s continual insensitivity to the environment. But not even this constant exposure could adequately prepare me for the shock of seeing the recent changes perpetrated on Baby Hammock Marsh, once one of Canada’s most important, pristine nature reserves and one of my favorite places to visit.

For years, the birds have enjoyed this magnificent conservation area undisturbed by human activity other than occasional visits by a few birdwatchers like myself. Last spring, however, both birds and birdwatchers were faced with a new and confusing challenge.
