Yes.  Each bird species has some idea of the optimal height for nest building.  Aside for concern about predators, parent birds must also consider what will happen if the babies fall out of the nest.  Therefore, decorative birdhouses that are too high or too low will prevent song birds from retrieving their young in the case of emergency.  For the most part, song birds will choose birdhouses that most closely match the height at which they would build their nests.
